The International Renewable Energy Organization (IREO), which is an intergovernmental organization, is focused on building a bridge between governments, social communities, private sectors, and non-governmental organizations. Their aim: bring together a global alliance that’s working on making renewable energy a reality.
In an upcoming Sustainable Forum climate change conference, which will be run in conjunction with the United Nations Association of Brazil, celebrities and elites of all types will be in attendance. In all there, will be over 190 countries represented by ambassadors and other dignitaries.
Fighting Blue-Green Algae at the Climate Change Conference
One of the major problems IREO is trying to solve is that of blue-green algae take-over along shorelines and in bodies of water all over Latin America and beyond. Blue-green algae, as you may or may not know, has the power to shut out life in bodies of water by preventing light from getting to lower depths of water. Oceans and other natural bodies of water are able to sequester carbon if they are healthy and vibrant, but blue-green algae can hamper this function.
IREO has developed Clear Blue, a low-tech solution to purifying lagoons by using a copper-based solution. This solution will kill the bacteria that kills fish and stimulates mosquito populations and algae blooms.
But more than just blue-green algae, IREO is also working in other sectors on renewable energies as a way of fighting climate change. Last year, events attracted speakers such as George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton and this year, Al Gore is set to be one of the presenters. The conference will also attract attendees such as Tony Blair, Condoleezza Rice, Leonardo DiCaprio, and others.
